Yamaha's largest-capacity machine, the Wild Star is a massive piece of engineering. A huge V-twin motor produces almost 100ft lb of torque at barely over tickover. The design of the engine blends old and new - it's a pushrod-valve air-cooled motor, but with a unique four-valve pushrod design, and Kevlar belt final drive. The styling is pure retro lowrider: valanced mudguards, hard tail-styled rear suspension and fork shrouds. Pullback handlebars, forward footboards and a low-slung seat put the rider in the perfect cruising position, although provision for a pillion is minimal. For 2001 Yamaha released an even larger version in the US - the XVI700 Road Star Warrior used a large 1670cc version of the Wild Star engine.
