Launched in 2002, Suzuki's Burgman 650 was an attempt to build on the success of the firm's smaller Burgman 400 and 250 scooters. Like its competitors, Honda's Silver Wing and Yamaha's T-Max, it uses a custom-designed parallel twin engine. This high-output design uses liquid-cooling, four-valve heads and fuel-injection to produce strong, clean power delivery. The Burgman uses a computer-controlled automatic gearbox, with selectable performance modes. The standard mode changes gear ratios at lower revs, for good economy, while a sports mode changes the ratios at higher revs for stronger acceleration. The variable belt transmission also has a 'manual' setting, allowing electronic selection of set ratios.
