The Alazzurra was the successful attempt to design a touring bike from the Pantah. Capacity was increased to 650 cc not to have more power but more tractability, and the cosmetics were at last very pleasant looking. It had a truly comfortable seat and a good riding position. But more than anything: it had the Pantah frame and motor!
One thing of the Pantah was missing on the Alazzurra: the correct brand on the tank. In fact it was labelled Cagiva and this, probably hampered its success in those markets that were more responsive to the fascination of the Ducati brand.
It was as if Fiat, when it acquired the Ferrari Factory, had imposed its brand on the less sporting models of the brand. We would now have a “Fiat 512” for example.
To make things more complicated, the Alazzurra was sold as “Ligier” in France!
