NSU Fox
The NSU Fox was intended to set the direction for modern NSU motorcycle production. Its compact yet powerful 4-stroke engine made the Fox look like a "real" motorcycle. Conspicuous was the modern central clamping frame, which was much more suitable for large-scale production that the conventional tubular frame. No other German motorcycle in the 100 cc class at the time was able to reach a speed of 85 km/h.
The 75th anniversary of the company NSU, in 1948 presented the first German post-war construction of a small motorcycle. This took place at the trade fair in Hanover. This motorcycle has had a significant impact on the further development of the construction of all the major motorcycle manufacturers . The press was regularly informed about the progress in the development of this motorbyke from 1947 . NSU did not hide his work creating this model, on the contrary, informed the press regularly . The motorcycle was named NSU Fox . The designer was Albert R?DER . For nearly 20 years he experimented different designs at Victoria in Nuremberg , but unfortunately he could not break through the conservatively thinking management. When he went to the company NSU, to implement his idea of the motorcycle immediately after its presentation. The vehicle has been thoroughly tested through the NSU factory driver on the road pass in Switzerland , and production began only in 1949. The first structures NSU Fox was equipped with 4 - stroke engine with a capacity of 98 cc, 3- speed gearbox and 6.5 liter fuel tank . The engine consumes unusual little for those times - 1.9l/100km . Even today, there is no bike that can boast of such low fuel consumption. From 1951 until 1954 a 2-stroke engine was also introduced This engine had a capacity of 123 cm 3, flat piston and a power output of 5.4 hp , thus it achieved almost the same power as the Fox 4-stroke . The engine has been designed to achieve high performance in the lower speed range . Transmission ratio was already 4:1. The fuel tank of the Fox 2 -stroke increased to 8 liters. In addition it has a modern sports handle bar . In 1953, he again modified engine. This treatment resulted in an increase in power up to 5.4 hp, engine turnging increased by 300 rpm to 5300 rpm, which contributed to an increase in the maximum speed to at least 83 km/h. Production of this version with 2 -stroke engine, as well as 4 -stroke lasted until 1954. Last production version was called the NSU 125 OSB Superfox . It features already in double sponge sofa, full chain cover , and turn signals in the in the handle bar. |
